Treehouse

The “Songbird Treehouse” was built as a community space and meditative retreat for Wildwood View Garden, a permaculture homestead in North Portland. It is a small cabin on posts, straddling the trunk of a historic maple tree. The post location was constrained by the roots of the tree, which thus determined the final shape of the structure. The clients desire for a curving and irregular structure was met with a rainscreen of cedar bender boards backed by salvaged roofing membrane. This membrane also underlies the cedar of the roof which undulates on a framework of roundwood rafters.
